FAQ with Pastor Matt:

Is it true you come from a Mormon background?

Yes! I became a Mormon in high school. Before that, there was really no real spiritual influence in my life.

How did you end up becoming a Christian?

That's actually an interesting story. I became a Christian on Christmas Day, 1990. I came to Christ after a lot of study and spiritual searching led me to believe that the Mormon faith was NOT the way to God. My journey did leave me with a heart for Mormon people--I like to talk with them and encourage them to ask questions and study the Bible as I did. The truth there spoke to my heart. I think my faith is stronger because of the way I came to it. I know WHY I believe in Christ!

Did you always know you would be a Pastor once you became a Christian?

You know, it's funny. I actually have a long legacy of ministers in my family--though I didn't really know it since a divorce separated me from that part of my family heritage. I have a Grandfather, two Great Uncles (my Granfather's brothers), an Uncle (my dad's brother), and a Great Granfather (my grandmother's father on my dad's side) who were all full time ministers! I guess I was sort of destined! I became a full time Pastor at NorthPark in 1999.

When did you come to NorthPark?

My wife Nancy and I have been around since the beginning. We've lived here in Santa Clarita for almost 20 years and we love this town and the people around here. We helped start NorthPark and we have been awed as we've watched God raise up this Church and build it into a place where people who are searching for truth and grace can find them.

Speaking of your wife, tell us about your marriage and your family.

Nancy and I have been married 21 years and we work hard at loving each other well. We have two daughters--Mallory, 19, who attends Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Illinois and Kelsey, 15, who attends Hillcrest Christian. I love being a husband and father and enjoy my role as spiritual leader of my home.

I'd be in Hawaii with Nancy, or at RRanch in the Sequoia's with my family!
