"Who am I, and why am I here?"
"Is this life all there is?"
"Can I know God?"
"If so, how?"
A good many people have sincere questions about spiritual things such as these. At NorthPark, it is our sincere desire to offer them answers to the BIG questions which really satisfy their soul's longing. We try to be simple, clear, and faithful to scripture as we offer substantive, biblical answers.
To put it simply, we like to share four words:
LOVE
God loves us, and created us to have a relationship with Him. Within this loving relationship with our Creator we find real, satisfying, and lasting life. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only beggotten Son that whosoever believes in Him sall not perish, but have eternal life." (John 3:16) "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." (John 10:10)
SIN
However, there is a problem. We are each sinful (we miss the mark and we want to go our own, independent, disconnected way) and separated from God. Because of our sin, we can’t reach God on our own and we can’t know or experience His love for us. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23) "For the wages of sin is death (spiritual separation from God), but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23)
JESUS
Jesus Christ is God’s only provision for our sin. Through Him, we can be forgiven and reconnected to God and His love. Because He gave His life for us, we find our life in Him. "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6) "For God demonstrates His own love for us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)
RECEIVE
It isn’t enough to know these things. We must each individually receive Jesus into our hearts, personally acknowledge our sin, and accept His forgiveness. Only then we can begin to know and experience God as we are reconnected to our Creator and Father. "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him." (Revelation 3:20) "Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, he gave the right to become children of God." (John 1:12)
